Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, lawmaker representing Badagry in the House of Representatives, on New Year’s Day empowered over 700 of his constituents with working tools worth over N100 million.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that beneficiaries received four boat engines, 100 sewing machines, 45 makeup kits, 55 barbing clippers, 300 electricity generators, 40 popcorn machines, 30 block making machines, 60 grinding machines and 60 hair dryers
The lawmaker, at the empowerment, called on beneficiaries, especially the youths, to take up the challenge of providing employment rather than being job seekers.
Hunpe assured the people that he would continue to provide for job seekers through meaningful empowerment and training programmes.
The lawmaker said that if beneficiaries of empowerment programmes used the opportunity well, they would not only advance their economic status, but also contribute to making the society better.
He advised bad elements among the youths to shun crime and take advantage of the various government employment opportunities.
High Chief Agoloto, Chief Samuel Hundogan, who represented Aholu Menu Toyi 1, Akran of Badagry, hailed the lawmaker for fulfilling his campaign promises.
He described the lawmaker as a good ambassador of Badagry and urged him to continue the good work.
Muritala Ibrahim, also known as DJ Loyal, one of the beneficiaries of the empowerment who got a big generator, commended the lawmaker for the good gesture.
Ibrahim said the generator would further improve his work and give him rest of mind whenever there is power shortage.
Dignitaries at the event included lawmaker representing Ikeja Constituency in the House of Representatives, James Faleke and traditional rulers in Badagry area.
Others present were All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains, professional groups, market men and women. (NAN)
