Embattled Governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako has reportedly been receiving pleas to honourably quit his job from close associates, party elders and spouses.

The well-wishers reckon that it is wiser to resign than to be impeached, as is imminent for Nyako, considering the Monday sitting of the seven-member panel constituted by Justice Ambrose Mammadi, the acting chief judge of the state, to investigate allegations levelled against the governor by the lawmakers.

The panel had defied a two-day holiday declared by Nyako to commence sitting at the J&J Holiday Villa, Yola, deliberating on the allegations levelled against the governor and his deputy, Bala James Ngilari.

By deifying the holiday, it is apparent that the panel means business. Thus at their own meeting, Nyako’s supporters, came to a conclusion that it is safer for the governor to resign before being booted out. The impeachment panel will likely conclude sitting on Tuesday.

Legislators in the state have reportedly gone incommunicado to avoid being influenced on behalf of the embattled governor.

Last week, 25 members of the state House of Assembly tasked the acting Chief Judge to set up a panel to investigate the activities of the governor, which they described as inimical to the progress of the state. Influential leaders of Adamawa decent, including Nigeria’s former vice president have not been able to persuade the lawmakers to desist from carrying on the impeachment plot against Nyako, even after several tries.
